Fence construction, conductor resistance, underground cable, vegetation, damaged insulators and poor connections all affect performance. Longer lead-out distances may also require multiple high-conductivity wires to transfer power efficiently from the energiser to the centre of the fence system.

Earthing Requirements

A high-output energiser requires a substantial earth system. Gallagher recommends installing at least three galvanised earth stakes approximately two metres long in permanently moist soil, spaced at least three metres apart.

Additional earth stakes may be required in dry, sandy or rocky conditions. Keep the electric fence earth system at least 10 metres away from mains cabling, telephone lines, water pipes and building earth systems.

Safe Mains-Powered Installation

Mount the Gallagher M1400 on a wall under cover, in a well-ventilated location protected from mechanical damage and out of reach of children. Where possible, install it away from pumps and other heavy electrical equipment that may cause interference.

Use suitable high-voltage insulated cable between the energiser, fence and earth system. Never use ordinary household electrical cable for electric fence lead-out connections.
