The 25W solar kit helps keep compatible Thunderbird energisers operating where mains electricity is unavailable. The panel captures solar energy and passes it through the regulator to maintain a suitable rechargeable 12V battery.

Compatible Thunderbird Energisers

The MB375 has an ideal-condition rating of up to 35km. Remember that energiser kilometre ratings are guides rather than guaranteed real-world fence lengths.

Choosing a Suitable 12V Battery

The solar equipment recharges the battery that powers the energiser; it does not replace the battery. For an MB375 installation, a rechargeable 12V battery with a minimum recommended capacity of approximately 80Ah should be considered.

Actual battery requirements depend on the energiser model, fence load, sunlight, local weather and the amount of reserve capacity required. A damaged, old or undersized battery may not hold sufficient charge even when the solar panel is operating correctly.

Positioning the Solar Panel

Install the panel where it will receive direct sunlight throughout the day. In Australia, a north-facing position will generally provide the strongest year-round exposure.

Avoid shade from trees, buildings, posts and other equipment. Secure the mounting frame properly and position the panel at an appropriate angle for sunlight and natural rain cleaning.

Maintaining Your Charging System

• Keep the solar panel clean and free from dust and debris
• Check the mounting frame and fasteners regularly
• Inspect cables for damage, loose connections and corrosion
• Monitor battery voltage and condition
• Confirm that the charging regulator is working
• Test electric fence voltage regularly
• Remove vegetation contacting live fence wires

Solar charging cannot compensate for excessive fence leakage caused by heavy vegetation, damaged insulators, poor wire joins or inadequate earthing.
