The MBS200 solar energiser kit helps you maintain reliable livestock control in remote paddocks without running mains electricity to the fence. It combines the flexible Gallagher MBS200 energiser with a 40W solar panel, regulator and durable mounting hardware.

With 2 joules of stored energy and 1.5 joules of output energy, the MBS200 is suitable for cattle, sheep, horses, goats and other livestock when matched to a correctly designed fence and earth system.

Flexible Power Wherever You Need It

The Gallagher MBS200 can operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or a compatible solar system. This flexibility allows you to use it for permanent installations, temporary paddocks or remote fencing where access to mains power is limited.

The included 40W solar panel provides additional charging capacity for installations in lower southern regions or locations where seasonal sunlight may be limited. Solar performance will still depend on panel position, weather, battery capacity and fence load.

Understanding the 20km Rating

The advertised 20km distance represents a clean, well-constructed fence operating under ideal conditions. Gallagher’s recommendation of up to 5km of multiwire fencing is generally a more practical guide for working farm conditions.

Vegetation touching live wires, inadequate earthing, damaged insulators, poor wire joins, unsuitable conductors and long lead-out distances can all increase the load placed on the energiser and reduce effective fence distance.

Solar Panel Positioning and Battery Care

Install the solar panel where it will receive strong, uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. Avoid shade from trees, buildings and machinery, particularly during winter when daylight hours are shorter.

The supplied regulator controls power flowing to the battery. The MBS200’s smart battery-management system also helps prevent damaging over-discharge when solar input is insufficient. Regular battery inspection and maintenance are still important for dependable operation.

Correct Earthing Is Essential

An effective earth system allows the electrical pulse to travel through the animal and return to the energiser. Without suitable earthing, even a correctly operating MBS200 may produce a weak shock along the fence.

Install suitable galvanised earth stakes in permanently moist ground. Dry, sandy or rocky soil may require additional stakes or an earth-return fence design. Keep the electric-fence earth system separated from building earths and underground services.
