Flexible Power for Smaller Fence Systems

The Gallagher MBS100 can operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or a compatible solar system. This flexibility allows it to be used in permanent installations, temporary grazing paddocks or remote locations where mains power is unavailable.

If your fencing requirements change, the energiser can be moved or connected to another compatible power source. Mains, battery and fence lead sets are supplied with the energiser.

The advertised 10km distance represents a clean, well-constructed fence operating under ideal conditions. Gallagher’s recommendation of up to 3km of multiwire fencing is generally a more practical guide for working farm conditions.

Vegetation touching the live wires, inadequate earthing, damaged insulators, poor joins, unsuitable conductors and long lead-out distances can all increase the electrical load and reduce effective fence performance.

Suitable Livestock and Applications

The MBS100 can be used for cattle, sheep, horses, goats and other livestock when matched to a correctly designed fence. It is best suited to smaller paddocks, subdivision fences, rotational grazing areas and other moderate-load applications.

If your fence will cover a larger area, carry significant vegetation or expand in the future, choosing an energiser with additional reserve capacity may provide more dependable long-term performance.

Solar Panel Positioning and Battery Care

Install the solar panel where it receives strong, uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. Avoid shade from trees, buildings and machinery, particularly during winter when daylight hours are shorter.

The supplied regulator controls power flowing to the battery. The MBS100’s smart battery-management system also helps prevent damaging over-discharge. Regular battery inspection and maintenance are still important for dependable operation.

Correct Earthing Is Essential

An effective earth system allows the electrical pulse to travel through the animal and return to the energiser. Without adequate earthing, even a correctly operating MBS100 may produce a weak shock along the fence.

Install suitable galvanised earth stakes in permanently moist soil. Dry, sandy or rocky ground may require additional stakes or an earth-return fence design. Keep the electric-fence earth system separated from building earths and underground services.
