Flexible Power for Working Farms

The Gallagher MBS800 can operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or the included solar-panel system. This flexibility allows you to use the energiser in permanent installations, remote paddocks or locations where access to mains power is limited.

If your fencing needs change, the energiser can be moved or converted to another compatible power source. Mains, battery and fence lead sets are supplied with the energiser.

Understanding the 40km Fence Rating

The 40km rating represents performance on a clean fence under ideal conditions. It should not be treated as a guaranteed working distance on every property.

Vegetation touching live wires, inadequate earthing, poor joins, damaged insulators, unsuitable fence wire, long lead-out distances and multiple live wires can all increase the load placed on an energiser. Gallagher’s recommended distance of up to 10km of multiwire fencing is generally a more practical guide for working farm conditions.

Solar Panel Positioning and Battery Care

Position the solar panel where it receives strong, uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. Avoid shade from trees, buildings and other structures, particularly during winter when daylight hours are shorter.

The regulator controls power flowing to the battery, while the MBS800’s smart battery-management system helps protect against excessive discharge. The battery should still be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure dependable operation.

Correct Earthing Is Essential

Even a powerful energiser cannot perform properly without an effective earth system. Use long galvanised earth stakes installed in permanently moist ground and size the system to suit the energiser, soil conditions and fence load.

Dry, sandy or rocky soil may require additional earth stakes or an earth-return fence design. Poor earthing is one of the most common causes of weak electric-fence performance.
