The Gallagher MBS400 is a versatile electric fence energiser designed to operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or a compatible solar-power system. Choose the Most Suitable Power Source

The Gallagher MBS400 can operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or an appropriately sized Gallagher solar system. This flexibility allows the same energiser to be used for fixed mains installations, remote paddocks or locations where battery backup is valuable.

Mains, battery and fence lead sets are supplied with the energiser. The external battery, solar panel and Gallagher solar kit are sold separately.

Suitable for Permanent and Portable Fencing

The MBS400 can provide continuous mains-powered operation for a permanent electric fence or run from battery and solar power in an off-grid location. Its durable, water-resistant enclosure supports flexible installation when the unit is mounted according to Gallagher’s instructions.

Fence and Battery Monitoring

Gallagher’s smart battery-management system helps protect an external battery against excessive discharge. Regular battery inspection, charging and maintenance are still required for dependable off-grid operation.

Practical Fence Distance Recommendations

The advertised 30km distance represents a clean fence operating under ideal conditions. Gallagher’s practical recommendation of approximately 8km of multiwire fencing is a better guide when planning a working farm fence.

Vegetation touching the live wires, long lead-out distances, underground cable, poor connections, damaged insulators and inadequate earthing can all reduce effective fence performance.

Earthing and Installation

The earth system must be sized to suit the MBS400’s output and the property’s soil conditions. Dry, rocky or sandy ground may require additional galvanised earth stakes or an earth-return fence design.

Keep the electric fence earth system at least 10 metres away from mains cabling, telecommunications equipment, water pipes and building earth systems. Use suitable high-voltage insulated cable for fence and earth connections.
