Flexible Mains, Battery and Solar Operation

The Gallagher MBS800 can operate from mains electricity, an external 12V battery or an appropriately sized Gallagher solar system. This flexibility makes it suitable for permanent installations, remote paddocks and properties where battery backup is valuable.

Mains, battery and fence lead sets are supplied with the energiser. The external battery, solar panel and Gallagher solar kit are sold separately.

Strong Power for Working Farm Fences

The MBS800 is suitable for cattle, sheep, horses and other livestock when matched to a correctly designed fence and earth system. Its 6 joules of output energy provide useful capacity for long fence runs, multiple live wires and systems exposed to moderate vegetation pressure.

The energiser can provide continuous mains-powered operation or be configured for battery and solar power in locations without a reliable electricity supply.

Fence and Battery Monitoring

The LED bar graph provides a quick indication of fence-voltage performance, helping the operator recognise increased fence load or declining voltage. When operating from a battery, the display also indicates battery condition.

Gallagher’s smart battery-management system helps protect the external battery against excessive discharge. Regular battery inspection, charging and maintenance are still required for reliable off-grid operation.

Practical Fence Distance Recommendations

The advertised 40km distance represents a clean fence operating under ideal conditions. Gallagher’s practical recommendation of approximately 10km of multiwire fencing is a more useful guide when designing a working farm fence.

Vegetation touching the live wires, underground cable, long lead-out distances, poor connections, damaged insulators and inadequate earthing can all reduce effective fence performance.

Earthing and Installation

The earth system must be sized to match the MBS800’s output and the property’s soil conditions. A higher-powered energiser generally requires multiple long galvanised earth stakes installed in permanently moist soil.

Dry, rocky or sandy ground may require additional stakes or an earth-return fence design. Keep the electric fence earth system at least 10 metres away from mains cabling, telecommunications equipment, water pipes and building earth systems.

Use suitable high-voltage insulated cable and follow Gallagher’s installation instructions for the selected mains, battery or solar configuration.

Is the Gallagher MBS800 Right for Your Fence?
