How to Install Strainer Posts

A well-installed strainer post gives your fence the strength and stability it needs. Follow these steps to create a secure fence assembly.

1. Choose the Right Location

Position strainer posts at fence ends, corners and changes in direction. Long fence runs may also need extra strainer assemblies to maintain wire tension.

2. Prepare the Site

Mark the fence line and select a suitable position for each post. Consider the fence height, wire tension and ground conditions before installation.

3. Dig or Drive the Post

Dig a suitable hole using a post-hole digger or auger. Alternatively, use a suitable post driver or slammer where ground conditions allow.

4. Set the Post

Place the post into the hole and check the alignment. Keep it straight and ensure it follows the fence line before securing it.

5. Stabilise the Post

Pack the soil firmly around the post or use a suitable setting method. Check the post remains straight as you secure it.

6. Install Bracing

Add suitable bracing between the strainer post and an adjoining post. Use horizontal or diagonal bracing to suit your fence design and tension requirements.

7. Attach the Fence

Attach the fencing material to the strainer assembly. Use suitable strainers or tensioners to achieve the required wire tension.

8. Check the Fence

Check the completed fence for alignment, stability and correct tension. Make any adjustments before finishing the installation.
