Description

2W Solar Kit for Small Electric Fence Energisers

The 2W solar kit helps keep a compatible Thunderbird electric fence energiser operating where mains electricity is unavailable. It uses sunlight to maintain a suitable rechargeable 12V battery, reducing the need to regularly remove and manually recharge it.

This listing is for the solar kit only. The electric fence energiser and battery are not included.

Why Choose This 2W Solar Kit?

  • Compact 2-watt solar-panel capacity
  • Designed for Thunderbird B20 and BD20 energisers
  • Supports off-grid electric fence operation
  • Helps maintain a suitable rechargeable 12V battery
  • Reduces routine battery-changing trips
  • Suitable for short permanent and temporary fences
  • Practical for strip grazing and remote paddocks
  • Simple, compact solar charging solution

Compatible Thunderbird Energisers

The SOLA-20 is designed for the following compatible Thunderbird models:

  • Thunderbird B20 battery energiser
  • Thunderbird BD20 portable battery energiser

These smaller energisers are intended for short electric fencing applications. Confirm the model number before ordering because larger energisers require a higher-capacity solar panel.

Choosing a Suitable 12V Battery

The panel maintains the rechargeable battery that powers the energiser; it does not replace the battery. Choose a suitable 12V battery in good working condition and follow the energiser manufacturer’s battery recommendations.

An old, damaged or undersized battery may fail to hold sufficient charge even when the solar equipment is operating correctly.

Positioning the Solar Panel

Install the panel in an open area where it will receive direct sunlight throughout the day. In Australia, a north-facing position will generally provide the strongest year-round exposure.

Avoid shade from trees, buildings, posts and other equipment. Even partial shade can reduce the charging performance of a small panel.

Maintaining Your Solar Charging System

  • Keep the panel clean and free from dust and debris
  • Check mounting and connection points regularly
  • Inspect cables for damage, loose connections or corrosion
  • Monitor the battery’s condition and charge level
  • Test the electric fence voltage regularly
  • Remove vegetation contacting live fence wires

A small solar panel cannot compensate for excessive power loss caused by heavy vegetation, damaged insulators, poor wire joins or inadequate earthing.

What Is Included?

  • Thunderbird 2-watt solar panel
  • Required mounting and connection components

The B20 or BD20 energiser and rechargeable 12V battery are sold separately.
