How to Guide:

Installing strainer posts, also known as end stay posts, is an essential part of building a sturdy fence. These posts provide support and tension for the fence line, ensuring the fence maintains strained and stable over time. There are several ways to properly install strainer posts:

  1. Choose the Right Locations: Determine where the strainer posts need to be placed. They are typically installed at corners, ends, and points where the fence changes direction. Additionally, strainer posts may be used along long straight sections of the fence to maintain tension.
  2. Select the Right Materials: Choose strong, durable posts made from materials such as treated wood, steel, or concrete. The size of the post should match the height and weight of the fence.
  3. Dig Deep Holes: Use a post-hole digger or auger to dig holes for the strainer posts. The depth of the holes should be approximately one-third the length of the post to provide adequate stability. Alternatively, the posts can be driven in with a slammer in the right conditions.
  4. Set the Posts: Place the posts in the holes and make sure they are upright and aligned with your fence line. Use a level to ensure the posts are straight.
  5. Stabilize the Posts: Fill the holes around the posts with concrete or packed soil and gravel to secure them in place. Make sure the posts remain straight as you fill the holes.
  6. Allow Time to Cure: If using concrete, allow it to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions before applying tension to the fence. This will ensure the posts are securely anchored.
  7. Install Bracing: Depending on the type of fence and the tension it will need to support, you may need to install bracing between the strainer post and an adjacent post. This bracing can be in the form of a horizontal brace (rail) or diagonal brace (wire).
  8. Attach Fence and Strainers: Once the posts are secure and stable, attach the fencing material to the strainer posts. For wire fences, attach the wire to the strainer posts and use strainers or tensioners to tighten the wire.
  9. Check for Stability and Tension
  1. : After installation, check the fence line for proper tension and stability. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure the fence remains secure.
